For me, number 3 is most important--sure, the turkey was great and all the 'traditional trimmings' were nice, but what really made it Thanksgiving and set it apart from any other big (BIG) roast dinner was having some wonderful American friends with us at the time. This year was the first time in 18 years I celebrated Thanksgiving, just because it was the first time in 20 years overseas that I had Americans around to join me--the first couple of years I was in the UK I tried and tried to make it work, but something was always missing... the fellow Americans who shared the same cultural history as me.
