Moving to Isle of Man

The Isle of Man is located between situated in between Ireland and Great Britain, in the Irish Sea. It is a self-governing British Crown Dependency, in which the head of state is Queen Elizabeth II, who holds title of the Lord of Mann. It is not part of the UK, but the UK is responsible for its defense and foreign relations. Its capital and largest city is Douglas, and its official languages are English and Manx. It is 572 square kilometers in size, and has a population of around 80,000 people.

Work Permit

The employment of foreign workers in the Isle of Man is possible, so long as you have specific skills or qualifications that cannot be settled by locals. Your prospective employer must advertise your prospective position in the newspaper, and show a copy of this to the government. They also must prove that Isle of Man workers were considered unable to carry out the employment. Your employer must also give details about the job, duration and your accommodation, if they intend to provide this.

You must also fill out part of this application. You must attach a copy of your valid passport. You must also state if you have been convicted of any criminal charges. You must fill out information about your past occupations. If you are bringing any family, you must fill out information about them.

Student Permit

You do not need to apply for a visa to study in the Isle of Man if you are an EEA national.

If you are not an EEA national, you must first send an application form to your local British Embassy or Consulate. Once you send it in, they will respond to you with an interview date.

At this interview, you must bring the following:

  1. Offer letter from your school
  2. Copy of your passport
  3. A letter from your school, stating how much it costs, and how this will be satisfied
  4. Evidence of government/individual sponsorship
  5. Evidence that you have knowledge of your school where you intend to study

This interview must be conducted in English, and they will assess whether you know enough English to be granted the student permit.

If everything in your interview clears, then you will get a sticker for your passport for an Entry Clearance Offer. You must be able to support yourself while you are in the Isle of Man.

If you are staying in the Isle of Man to study for over six months, then you may be entitled to work for up to 20 hours per week.

Moving Pets

You cannot bring your pet directly into the Isle of Man. They must first go through Great Britain. They must also have a PETS Passport to enter the Isle of Man from Great Britain. To obtain this passport, you must have your pet microchipped. They must also be vaccinated against rabies, and this must be proven through blood testing. They also require tick and tapeworm treatment. They cannot come in through private boat or plane.

The following dogs are prohibited from importation to the Isle of Man: Pit Bull Terriers, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino and Fila Braziliero.
