Best Air Quality: Locations

patagonia

Air quality is important to many people in choosing where to relocate. Even if your city is eco-friendly and not polluted, it still may get fumes or air coming in from surrounding or even distant industrial areas. The following locations have natural protection from invasion of dirty air.

Tasmania, Australia

Tasmanian air is clean all over the country, even around the populated areas. It is sometimes called the “Island of Inspiration,” due to its beautiful, untouched nature. It is the most mountainous state of Australia.

Hawaii, USA

Though air drifts in from China, Hawaii manages to rise above it; the pollution particles quit moving when they face the inversion layer of warmer air. It is a volcanic hotspot that is completely surrounded by water.

Iceland

Air comes into Iceland from Canada and Greenland, but it is purified by rain clouds before coming in. Most of Iceland is powered by renewable hydroelectric and geothermal sources. Air is clean on this whole island, not just where it is tested.

Cape Peninsula, South Africa

Though much of South Africa is populated and run by coal and bio-mass, Cape Point observatory has very pure air. This peninsula is a rocky peninsula that overlooks the Indian and Atlantic Oceans.

Tahiti

A great place for kiteboarding, Tahiti is a remote lagoon in the Southern Pacific Ocean that is hardly populated. It has lush rain forests and beautiful sand beaches.

Samoa

Most of the air that reaches this tiny Southern Pacific island group, Samoa, is very pure. There is an observatory, but it is solar-powered.

Antarctica

Though there is hardly any sun here, the air is very pure due to its remoteness. Maybe not the ideal environment to thrive in, as ninety-eight percent of Antarctica is covered in ice, and it is the coldest, driest and windiest continent.

Easter Island

Easter Island is a Polynesian island in the Southeastern Pacific Ocean, and is full of clean seas as well as air. There is some pollution coming from diesel generators, but nothing major. Most of the island’s land consists of three extinct volcanoes.

Patagonia, Argentina and Chile

The Southern area in South America is hardly populated. Patagonia consists of the southernmost part of the Andes, and some plateaus low plains in the east. There many beautiful lakes and even glaciers in this location.

South Island, New Zealand

Often called “The Mainland,” most of the air that comes into here is from the oceans surrounding Antarctica, which has limited or no human activity.
