We act respectfull to people of other nations and try to get on well, even the German history is not the best. But sometimes it is not possible to convince older people who lost loved ones through the hands of my countrymen. I think this is the same with the US citizens today – a lot of innocent people died of American guns and the media educated people about us wrongdoings of the past in many countries of the world.
The German were held accountable even they did not support Hitlers policy, why should it be different with US citizens who do not support their foreign policy?

Funny is when we meet Americans overseas, the first thing they normally say is that they do not support US foreign policy.

I think the United States Of America are a great Nation and the people deserve to be welcomed all around the world. Maybe they should step up and make sure the their government isn’t destroying the reputation of this Nation for good.

How true. I think many Brits living in Spain often fail to fully understand the cultural differences in their newly adopted country.

Exiler–very true, these mostly common sense ideas can apply to any nationality suffering from ‘ethnic hatred or bias’. Unfortunately these are not common sense behaviours to all people!

For instance, if you are a Dane or an Israeli living abroad, simply replace “Anti-Americanism” and “American accent” accordingly with “anti-Danish sentiment” and “Hebrew language” or “Hebrew intonation”.

The Brits have a very unique sense of humour. Learn about that instead, I would suggest. They will be quite upfront about things like that but also take the mickey out of themselves. So, again, don’t take it personally. They love anything different!
