Just catastrophic in case of the worst. Thailand is very in expensive (as I found out when I had a major ear problem) but I have not heard of any catastrophic insurance for when One travels outside of the country

You will say that it is expected when you ski, well I agree with you but we are back to needing an insurance…

You take Asia as an example, this part of the world is developping fast and have good hospitals. But take a walk in Africa and good luck with the health system.

I got your point, I agree with it on some specific cases (like insurance for glasses, its often cheaper to buy them on the internet). But I do not believe you should travel and work abroad without a good safety net.

I personnaly never want my family having financial difficulties because of my health condition.

Guillaume, your points are exactly what I was referring to. How many people do you know that have randomly fallen into a coma at home? How many people have to be airlifted somewhere due to a crippling fall? Insurance doesn’t keep you healthy itself, it just prevents you from going broke in case of the worst.

My point certainly wasn’t that everyone should roam the world with no insurance, but rather to keep the risks and associated costs in perspective, realizing that there is some risk in everything.

What if you got pregnant in Thailand? Are you implying that hospitals and doctors there are unaware of what to do when someone gets pregnant? Some people choose to never leave home in case they fall into a coma, and if that’s what makes them happy then so be it. Again, my point is that they have hospitals and pharmacies everywhere, and most of them are quite cheap. -Tom

Pregnancy ? a premature baby ?

Any ideas of the cost of sanitary transportation if you need one ? Price of a helicopter lift in case of accident in the wild ?
