Amazing Wedding Traditions In The World

wedding

Now that we all know where we can find the best husband in the world, I thought we could take a look at how is organized one of the greatest summer party: the wedding.

All over the world, families get together to celebrate love in accordance with their beliefs and traditions. Most of us know the famous English “Something old, Something new, Something borrowed, Something blue” from the 19th century but what are other nice little details that can make a ceremony an unforgettable moment?

Turning back the hands of time in Egypt or why the ring finger is the fourth digit of the human hand

Apparently we owe this to Egyptians who were convinced that a unique vein, the love vein, was coming from the heart to this finger. By putting a ring around the vein, you would make sure your wife would love you forever.

Cotton ties in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia

During the tchang dai ritual friends and family tie hands of spouses with white cotton ties soaked in holy water. Prayers are said while putting the ties and they should not be taken off until the next day.

Thailand: Would you ask her for me?

Traditions are traditions and this doesn’t mean that men in Thailand are particularly craven. In this country, one of the groom’s best friends ask for bride’s hand in marriage. Negociations can then start about the amount of money to give to the bride’s family as a retribution for her education.

Two gold coins and three ribbons in Sweden

In Sweden, before the bride to be leaves for the church, her mother gives her a gold coin to go in her right shoe, and her father hands her a silver coin to be placed in her left shoe. This way she will never forget her shoes, which represent here her moral heritage.
After the wedding vows and consent, Swedish newly-weds put 3 ribbons on the new bride’s ring finger. The first one represents their engagement, the second one is the wedding ring, and the last one is a promise of motherhood.

Talking about Shoes

In Sicily, the bride gets prepared with the help of all the single women of the family. The dress, the jewels, and finally the shoes… But right before putting her shoes on, each single woman gets to write her name on the heel. At the end of the night, the newly weds should have danced enough to make sure the names have disappeared, meaning each woman will find a husband.

Are there any other wedding traditions in your country?
