The major cities of China, Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, all have busy international airports. Travelers looking for cheap flights to China will likely end up flying into one of the following four airports.

Shanghai

Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) Information

The Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) is a major airport of East Asia, and is located about 30 kilometers away from the Shanghai city center. It is open 24 hours a day. There are two main passenger terminals. Some projects are under construction, such as a third terminal, as well as a train to take passengers downtown.

Airlines That Fly Into Shanghai Pudong International Airport

The Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) is the third busiest airport in China, but is often the busiest in terms of total passengers handled. There is a growth plan for this airport, and an new runway and terminal are under construction. They are also constructing a Shanghai Metro Line 2 to the airport. Right now, travelers can get to the city via taxi or city bus.

The Shanghai Hongqaio International Airport (SHA) was the main international airport of China until 1999, after the construction of the Pudong airport. Nevertheless, it is still very busy, and most of the traffic is within China, as well as to South Korea and Japan. Many of the international arrivals to this airport come in through Seoul and Tokyo. There are three terminals at PEK; they recently added Terminal 3 in 2008, which is the second largest airport terminal on earth. To get to Beijing, passengers have the options of taking taxis, shuttle buses or the Beijing Subway’s Airport Express Line.

The Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) is the busiest Chinese airport, with traffic arriving from and departing to all over the world. It is the main hub for Air China, and also a major hub for Hainan and China Southern Airlines. Some other airlines that service PEK include Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Continental, Delta, Korean Air, Turkish Airlines and United.

Guangzhou

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) Information

The Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) is a new airport that is open 24 hours. It is located 28 kilometers away from the city center of Guangzhou, and passengers get there via taxis and buses. They are building a metro station under the airport to link it to the city center.

The Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) is the second busiest Chinese airport with its passenger traffic. This airport is the main hub for China Southern Airlines, as well as a focus city for Shenzhen Airlines. Some other airlines that service this airport include Air France, Japan Airlines, Shanghai Airlines and Vietnam Airlines.
