I posted on my site today about why Americans celebrate so many other folks’ holidays, including Cinco de Mayo. I think it has less to do with fantasies of expatriating and more to do with a good party with drinking. Look at the other ethnic holidays we have expropriated: St. Patrick’s Day, Oktoberfest. . . We descendents of Puritans just like an excuse to party. 🙂
