Top 10 Most Expensive Cities for Expats in 2009

Not too long ago, we reported on the top 10 most expensive cities for expats according to the 2008 Mercer Cost of Living Survey. Well, the 2009 version of the survey was recently released, and we thought it’d be prudent to update our expat readers.

The survey covers 143 cities across the world, measuring the comparative cost of over 200 items, including housing, transport, food, clothing, entertainment and household goods.

After all the calculating, here are this years 10 most expensive cities for expats. The number in parentheses following the cities is their rank from last year:

  1. Anybody ever paid 25 us for a mango in Tokyo? Hamburgers seem to be around that price as well. Thinking of planting some on my balcony!
