Port Saint John’s

Port Saint John’s is in the Eastern Cape region, in an area known as the Wild Coast. This spot has some breathtaking tropical landscapes along the coastline, and is relatively undeveloped. Port Saint John’s is not so much a famous surfing spot, but is great for swimming and laying around.

Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabeth is also part of the Eastern Cape, and is one of the biggest cities in South Africa. It is nicknamed the “Friendly City” and the “Windy City.” It has the reputation for being Africa’s water sport capital, full of places for surfing and swimming. Some nice beaches of Port Elizabeth are Kings Beach and Humewood Beach. Definitely a nice place to go for those who like a mix of beach and city.

East London

East London is a medium-sized city in the East Cape, situated on the Indian Ocean. It is usually called Buffalo City, and is known to be more laid-back and relaxing than some of the other urban spots. The beaches are full of sand dunes and awesome ocean views. One good beach for swimming is Orient Beach.

Cape Vidal: iSimangaliso Wetland Park

This park is located on the Kwazulu-Natal coastline of South Africa, and is the third largest protected nature area in the country. It has long stretches of white sand, and there are many rock pools that go along the beach. In October, people go there to watch humpback whales.

Umhlanga

Umhlanga is another part of the KwaZulu-Natal coastline, north of the city of Durban. The town of Umhlanga Rocks is a seaside resort town on the Indian Ocean. People go there for surfing, swimming, warm tidal pools and boogie boarding.

Durban: South Beach

Durban is a large city on the KwaZulu-Natal coastline with over 3 million people. This city holds the Golden Mile, which is a fun urban beach stretch for tanning, swimming and surfing. Lots of people from Johannesburg come down to Durban on their vacation time to enjoy this beach.

Camps Bay

Camps Bay is a rich suburb of Cape Town, in the Western Cape, and is a popular place for foreign tourists. There are white beaches around the beautiful waters, as well as fun nightlife when you go into town.

Clifton

Clifton is also outside of Cape Town, and is an even more upscale beach, full of rich locals and some models and celebrities.

Hermanus

Hermanus is a small town on the southern coast of the Western Cape, and is one of the best whale-watching sites in Africa. It is a popular town for people to retire.
