Flights to the Caribbean are bargains in fall

SanJuanNot many people realize that the least popular time of the year to fly is October and November, at least up until Thanksgiving. During the winter so many people fly for the holidays and then later to warm weather destinations that things can be expensive, while spring is almost as popular as summer for big trips to cultural destinations.

With this in mind, finding cheap flights for October and early November is actually quite easy. The savvy traveler knows that it’s better to put off a vacation until this time, when you’ll be able to go somewhere wonderful for 3 weeks for less than it costs to go for 2 weeks during a peak season. Having smaller crowds to deal with is another bonus to consider.

The Caribbean in fall is an awesome bargain

I know what you are thinking. Aren’t there hurricanes in the Caribbean during the autumn months? Well, yes there are, at least some years, but certainly not all years. The thought of a possible hurricane is enough to keep many, if not most people from considering a holiday at this time of year, and that is foolish.

Consider that Nebraska and states around it have tornados between April and June most years. What are the chances that you’ll actually be in the path of a tornado if you happen to be in that region for one week during those months? It’s incredibly tiny. Hurricanes are similar, except the area is about 100 times larger and they will always spot the hurricanes at least 4 or 5 days before they arrive. In other words, there is no danger of being harmed, and only a very slight danger of having to evacuate.

Flights to Puerto Rico and Barbados are cheap

The weather during the fall in the Caribbean is almost perfect, with afternoon showers on some days that most people find refreshing. You can currently fly from New York to San Juan, Puerto Rico for $290 round-trip, or to the Barbados for $370 round-trip. The Bahamas starts at around $320 round-trip at the moment, so each of these places is about a third of the price of a flight to Europe.

Better news is that hotels and resorts in the Caribbean offer prices at about half of their high-season rates, so you can actually get a very nice 4-star beach hotel for under $100 if you shop around. You’ll also have smaller crowds to deal with, so it feels more exclusive and less manic.

The threat of potential hurricanes scares so many people away that anyone rational enough to realize that there is zero danger will be rewarded with fantastic bargains and still excellent weather. If you can afford a deluxe resort trip in January then go for it, but if you are like so many of the rest of us in that a high-season trip is tough to pull off, you can vacation like a king if you do it at the right time.
