British Expats Risk Losing Their Vote

vote

Millions of British expats risk losing their vote in the next upcoming general election.

Of the 5.5 million British citizens currently living abroad, less than 13,000 are currently registered to vote.

That’s a scary number, expats. Remember that laws back home can drastically effect your life abroad, be it through taxation, foreign relations or other public policy which effects distant loved ones.

British citizens living abroad can register as overseas voters if they have been registered to vote in the UK at any time within the past 15 years, and they can vote either through post or proxy (someone assigned to vote for you).

Anyone that wants to register should go to aboutmyvote.co.uk for more information, and you can even download a registration form there. A general election could be called at any time between now and June 2010, so voters should register as soon as possible.
