Theme Parks in the United Kingdom

Alton Towers

Alton Towers is the most popular theme park in the UK, and is rated as one of the best in the world. It is building a new roller coaster to open up soon, called “Thirteen,” which is deemed to be the scariest in the UK. Thirteen will be themed around the Dark Forest, an unearthed burial site. This ride has taken 2 years and 9 months to build, to be unleashed in March.

There are many other rides and themes to chose from, within the twelve themed lands. There are great options for children, such as Adventure Land and Cloud Cuckoo Land, which features a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed ride. Those who are a little older can enjoy many options, one of which is Katanga Canyon, which can take you through a mock gold mine or river rapids.

Thorpe Park

Thorpe Park deems itself as the UK’s most thrilling theme park. It has intense rides, including Tidal Wave, Slammer and Rush. There are six different theme lands to choose from. One option is Canada Creek, where you can go on mock railways and log rides; there is Neptune’s Kingdom, which is a water park for the whole family.

Thorpe Park also features Stealth, which is the highest, fastest roller coaster in all of Europe; it goes up to 205 feet in 8 seconds!

Chessington World of Adventures

Chessington World of Adventures is geared towards families with children. About 90% of the rides here are suitable for children 12 and under. One of the themes for children is Beanoland, which emphasizes cartoons and has several fun, not-too-thrilling rides. There is also Land of the Dragons, which is for young children 2-8 years old, and it has a small roller coaster, a spinning boat ride and even a puppetry show.

This theme park also has a zoo and sea life center, for those who want to see animals.

Legoland Windsor

Legoland Windsor describes itself as the UK’s most unique theme park. It is a newer theme park that opened in 1996. It has over 53 million Lego bricks in its finished state. The park has 11 interesting theme lands on its grounds. The Land of the Vikings includes a River Splash, along with a labyrinth maze. There is also Lego City, in which you can take a train ride and witness Lego wild animals! Miniland is an interesting theme, which has 40 million Lego pieces used to recreate scenes from around the USA and Europe.
