U.S. Study Abroad Foundation Act Introduced

Study Abroad

We strongly encourage every college student to take advantage of their opportunities to study abroad. Now with the help of the Study Abroad Foundation Act, those opportunities may expand for American students.

The legislation, which can be found in more detail here, lays out the following objectives:

  • Increasing participation in quality study abroad programs.
  • Encouraging diversity in student participation in study abroad.
  • Diversifying locations of study abroad, particularly in developing countries.
  • Making study abroad a cornerstone of today’s higher education.

That last one, in particular, couldn’t be stressed more. Startlingly, only 1% of American college students currently study abroad. Every student that wants to study abroad should be given the opportunity to do so. And for those students that don’t want to, where’s your sense of curiosity and adventure?

Write your Congress person and show your support of this bill. There’s simply no better education for a student than the experience and challenge of another culture, country, language and way of life. We guarantee it’ll be the most memorable and rewarding time of your college experience!

  1. The stats that I see all the time are “55/5”, 55% polled say they are interested in study abroad and eventually less than 5% actually do. The main reasons is usually funding.
