Winter Sales in Barcelona

rebajas-300x300Now is the time to shop in Barcelona! Known as the Rebajas in Spanish or Rebaixes in Catalan, the Winter Sales in Barcelona are the time to grab some amazing bargains.

When?

Sales start the week after the ‘Festival of the Kings’, or the second week of January and usually last up until the end of February. Unlike Paris, there are no official sale dates in Barcelona. There are first rebajas, then a bigger mark down for second rebajas, and finally remate – final clearance sales in Barcelona.

The first day of rebajas is known for being especially frantic, especially at El Corte Ingles so arrive prepared to elbow your way through the crowds for the best bargains.

Where?

Barcelona is known for its famous 5 kilometer shopping area that starts at the top of the Ramblas and continues to Plaça Catalunya. Barcelona’s most popular department stores El Corte Ingles (nine floors of shopping!), FNAC and Heron City.

For designer bargains, visit the Barcelona Roca Village Outlet, which is full of designer labels with reductions of up to 70 per cent. Stockland is another good discount outlet and specialises in Spanish and Italian designer labels.

Barcelona also has many boutiques and artisan workshops. The narrow streets of the beautiful centre of the old city, Barri Gotic, are lined with these curious shops and are well worth a visit even if these shops are unlikely to have sales in January.

When Barcelona went though its refurbishment for the 1992 Olympic games several new districts were created which are good for shopping but the really interesting areas to shop are the centuries old districts such as the centrally located La Diagonal.

  1. Thanks for the local update Rob! Its good to know the deals may be even better than usual, but shame for the shop owners that are suffering.
