10 Best Places to Live for Escaping World Conflict

Where would you be the safest if World War 3 broke out tomorrow? Perhaps it’s a grim subject, but safety and distance from world conflict can be a motivating factor in your choice to expatriate. At the very least, conflict around the world can weigh heavy on the soul, and it’s nice to know there are some places still left in the world where you might be left in peace. Thus, we’ve assembled a list of the 10 best places to live if you want to escape world conflict.

10. Switzerland

switzerland

Switzerland’s long history of neutrality and its tucked away location among the valleys of the Alps still make it a safe bet, even despite having a high number of bordering nations. It helps that neighboring Austria is also considered a neutral nation.

9. Costa Rica

Costa Rica

Costa Rica has a stable democracy, a disbanded military and a national policy of neutrality. It also ranks highly on the Global Peace Index, Happy Planet Index, and Life Satisfaction Index. Although it sits in the middle of a tumultuous region, there are far worse places to sit in peace as the world goes down in flames all around.

8. Papua New Guinea

papua

There are regions of Papua New Guinea that are still being discovered for the first time. The canopy covered, mountainous nation contains some of the most isolated places in the world. Tuck yourself away in a nook here and it may be one of the few places left where you can completely insulate yourself from the outside world.

7. Canada

Canada

Canada is the second largest nation in the world, yet it only shares a land border with one other country– the U.S.A.– and it is a peaceful border. That means there is a great expanse to escape to, if need be. Furthermore, Canada has few world enemies, ranks consistently high on the Global Peace Index, and is relatively homogeneous.

6. Seychelles

Seychelles

Aside from being safely isolated from the rest of the world in the middle of the Indian Ocean, this beautiful island nation is a great place to forget about your worries. Isolation is the key here. And conflict is as transparent as the water.

5. Finland

finland

Finland has a long history of desiring to stay out of international conflicts, is recognized as neutral and always ranks in the top 10 of the Global Peace Index. It’s northerly location also typically means the remote areas of this country are a perfect place to disappear.

4. Tuvalu

Tuvalu

Isolated in the middle of Micronesia, Tuvalu is among the safest and most remote places in the world. It is the third least populated country on Earth, and the forth smallest. There are only a few places more distant from the world’s strife than Tuvalu.

3. Iceland

iceland

Iceland, of course, has no borders, has remote locations, is stable as a country and has virtually no world enemies. Its people are happy and the nation always ranks highly on the Global Peace Index. If world conflict erupts, Iceland is one of the few stable nations in the world unlikely to get caught up in the middle.

2. Bhutan

Bhutan

Landlocked among the Himalaya mountains, Bhutan is one of the most isolated nations in the world. It also showcases one of the most stable balances in the world between moderization and retention of ancient culture. Its religious population believes in peaceful resolution to all conflict, and although it sits in a troubled region, it remains protected by its geography.

1. New Zealand

New Zealand

New Zealand might be the most isolated and expansive fully developed nation in the world. It shares no borders, sits relatively distant from any other nation, has no real national enemies, has a safe democracy and a diverse landscape with many remote places to hide away within. Furthermore, it ranked #1 on the Global Peace Index in 2009.

  1. I have lived in Costa Rica, and am sure if there was global conflict it would be smack dab in the middle of it. Have you ever noticed that thing called the Panama canal? It’s just south of my property in CR. Thats how you get war ships from one ocean to the other. Not having an army is only a plus if the countries around you don’t attack you. Also, those supposedly “happy” costa ricans already spend vast amounts of time stealing and looting from each other ,and foreigners.. imagine how they would act in a real crisis…….dig a hole and get in.

  2. Kia Ora Kiwis!

On a lark I sent an email to the NZ Dept of Immigration just to see what they had to offer. 3 years later I’m still getting emails from them practically begging me to move there.

There must be a real shortage of middle-aged bald guys down under. At least the women are hot. Is polygamy legal in NZ? LOL

  3. Um Tuvalu is going to be under water within the next century… I suppose that is one way to avoid world conflict, but I am guessing living there while climate change takes its impact will probably not be very peaceful ….

  4. This has got to be a few years out of date– Iceland’s economy is in shambles, and it’s being sued by other European countries. It’s stability and lack of enemies is a thing of the past.

  5. Yeah, I’d chose Canada. It’s cool (low humidity, not that many bugs except mosquitoes), has fabulous scenery, it’s green and it’s big with a low population. For those of us who like to feel the wilderness is near, it’s great. People are nice, too, eh?

  6. If the aggressors happened to be Australia or China, and this is conventional boots on the ground warfare, here in New Zealand we’d be occupied and churning out cheese strings for their troops by lunchtime. As a foodbasket nation, it’s strategically highly desirable, and having a tiny population, it’s a pushover.

  7. New Zealand’s main enemy is Australia. Their English sounds strange as well. And they have a too many sheep.

  8. LarryC, youΒ΄re a complete ass. IΒ΄m an english citizen an been living in Costa Rica for almost 17 years. If youΒ΄re so disgusted with this peacefully land and with the most friendly and truly amazing people as costarrican are: GET OUT and let other person from the world who definitely will give everything they have to spend the rest of their lives in a place like Costa Rica.

Because of people like you, LarryC, is that I got away from my land and USA, where I lived almost 5 years. The only problem you can find while you visit Costa Rica for the first time is that you donΒ΄t want to leave anymore! Pura vida from Costa Rica… paradise city!

  9. After the incident of Japan i wud love to be isolated from water. It doesnt matter even if the city is not beautiful but it should be safe for me and my family to live in.

  10. As an Orstralian I can pretty much assure worried New Zealanders that invasion, while tempting (cheese strings you say…) is waaaaay too much like active duty…

  11. New Zealand has fiercely racist population against immigrants. Some people do not have the ideal of true multiculturalism because of its geographical isolation and lack of education. I (Japanese) experienced numerous incidents personally especially from the women who are proud to be the descendants of the first women voters. Not so peaceful place.

  12. Im a New Zealander, and it is massively multicultural especially in high populated places like Auckland, there is racism of course, but from my point of view we have a pretty high tolerance to cultural diversity. our english sounds as strange to you, as your english does to us. Our country is beautiful, seemingly naive and behind in things, which i love.
Living simply along with our sheep (nice stereotype there Brian), we are not enemies with Australia, just fiercely competitive in terms of sports and things, we think of them as cousins.

  13. Doesn’t sound safe or peaceful anywhere much. Switzerland sounds great – will have to check out their requirements – but I think I might a million or two dollars short of their criteria for migrating there. But I will ask.

Oz has become a dictatorship rather that a democracy, we’re over-governed by nincompoops, we’re overtaxed, over policed, stressed, depressed, anxious, drugged, drunk, violent, and racially divided, and more suicidal, As a nation we used to be -more friendly, happy, laid back and a pretty calm lot…and we had fun. Everything here now is about power and money, and I don’t feel like it’s home any more.

  14. diana pretty much summed up all the things that are happening here down under, the government pretty much wants to tax everything from mining to alco pops and so on,the price of petrol is off the roof.everything is messed up,shortage of houses,we have the highest racially divided community in the western world especially towards muslims, every teenager wants to drink and fight, you will be lucky to go and have a goodnight out in the city without coming back home with a set of teeth missing or getting bashed.the funny thing is we have a population of just 20million imagine if we reach 50million also our democracy keeps changing every months we end up with a new prime minister.

  15. Be careful of those kiwis. They have already invaded Australia. Just look at Bondi, you’d be flat out getting fush n chups anytime.

  16. Switzerland is safe, but nobody is really welcome (must spend 12 years and learn 4 languages to qualify, most people give up halfway).

Canada and New Zealand sent troops to fight Islam, they are not safe anymore.

Iceland got caught in a financial scandal (other European countries are suing them big time), I would not call it a safe place.

Bhutan is a nice place, but just like Switzerland, you, the redneck yankee are NOT welcome there either, sorry. It is near impossible even entering the country, let alone staying there for more than your tourist visa allows.

Finland is indeed the safest bet maybe, but as a member of the EU and NATO I would not call it a neutral country either. And as NATO is currently fighting Islam, too… I would not place my bets on any Western country in fact (except Switzerland, which is ABOVE the level of the level of wars of religions, but see above: nearly impossible to live there unless you are a millionaire, in which case it really does not matter where you live anyway).

Russia is indeed not on the list, yet I agree it is THE safest country on this planet, period. Reasons? It is the biggest country on earth, about twice the size of those little ones like Canada, USA, China. Russia is the ONLY country on this planet which is 100% self-sufficient in everything. Would a war break out, Russia could happily survive without the rest of the world. Even better: Russia’s military is THE best in the world, period. Hence, no sane minds (not even the USA) dares to pick a fight with the Red Army. Besides, Russians are simply the cleverest, smartest people on this planet, so as long as you are there, you are not only safe from stupid WARS that stupid warmongers play these days (just look around), but also safe from IDIOTS like those who kill each other these days for fun.

All-in-all: Russia was missing from the list, but it would beat them all, it is number 1. πŸ™‚

  17. Lol at Peter Wood. Fush n chups.
I was in Australia a month ago, and got mocked for my accent. Nice guys, nice. At least when I say “six”, you know I’m talking about the number, right?

  18. I’m sorry Canada is not a safe country, not by any means. If ww3 breaks out we all know it will be between America and some country likely in the eastern hemisphere russia/china/iran/france/uk who knows. Point is that country unless it is brazil will be shooting nuclear weapons over canada and into america so all of Canada will be dead, that is why we have american soldiers in alert (the northern most station/inhabited part of Canada) and an early warning system for nuclear weapons. Further countries like Russia, China and USA routinely sail nuclear submarines through the artic waters around Canada’s islands disrespecting our soverighty and with global warming the chance of a future war is extremely high as Canada will have to enforce its maritime border against other powerful northern nations. Further we also have a terrirortial dispute with Denmark over several island and we have sended the army there to take possession of them, so Canada is not safe from war and we are in afghanistan.

PS. and the poster who said Canada is low humidity and bug free is a crackpot. They have mosquitos bigger than dogs up here in northern ontario and it gets so humid here because of the high temperatures in the summer and lots water adds to the humidity (lakes/rivers) think chicago humid.

Of that list Iceland/NZ is probably the safest of developed countries

  19. Yeah Right Phil, Canada is the greatest country to live in; Northern Ontario being right up there in places to go.

  20. Switzerland is one of the toughest countries to immigrate to. They have strict laws requiring you to have a certain level of finances, and require a 12 year wait, at the end of which a board can turn down your application for a number ,of reasons. Canada’s govt has stated its ready to declare martial law whenever necessary and has made it illegal in such an event to keep food, even in a pantry in your own home, for emergency purposes. thanks anyways for the suggestions

  21. I just want to live somewhere beautiful, peaceful, and free of turmoil. I’m 55 and just want beautiful scenery and friendly people. No rush hour grid lock, no fighting, just peace. Blue-green water, lush green vegetation, small town homeyness?
Can someone tell me where I can get this? [email protected]

  22. i have to agree with phil, even though i dont want to, I live in Canada and i am scared to death that we will be attacked. and I am afraid that if we are the usa will not back us up.

  23. So Buthan is the only one you have not discarded yet… Well, that house doesnt have a big enough flat patio for me… I’ll stay here in this beautiful caribbean island (us colony) on a hammock at the beach drinking a pina colada looking at the surf and humback whales jumping in front of the sun setting behind that mountainous island…Oh Wow, a real green flash sunset…. (where I am?)

  24. @Deb–my thoughts exactly. So what about Papua New Guinea, Seychelles, Finland, Tuvalu, or what about Ireland? Anyone got any comments on these places. I am ready to escape to a peaceful, quiet life..no chaos, no drama, no stress. Plus…any advice on how to go about leaving the USA? I don’t even have a passport or know how to begin, just ready for a new journey in my life. Thanks for any help.

  25. Alright, this list is dumb and so are many of its posters.

Canada is by no means safe. Like someone already mentioned, if there is WW3, it will most likely involve the U.S. and either China, North Korea, Russia, or Islamic countries. Canada — bordering America — will not be in a good position. They could either be used as a stepping stone towards invading the US, or they will experience some unintentional bombings. Nuclear type bombs targeted at the USA will also have an effect in Canada — since so many of their residents live near the border. The fact that it is in Nato and fighting alongside Americans does not help the nation’s case as being safe.

New Zealand and Australia are in a bad position if the rising Asian countries like China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Koreas take to imperial ambitions. Its favorable climate and soil could make them targets for colonization and eventual enslavement or even genocide to get the land.

The Icelandic economy almost collapsed… no further explanation necessary. The island is also home to active volcanoes — so not exactly safe.

And to the utter moron who mentioned Russia? Are you serious? China covets what Russia has. They needs its natural resources and women to satisfy their population — which is increasingly men. Russia’s population is declining as well, so the manpower will not be there in the future. They wont be able to sufficiently protect its borders, and in turn, resources. Plus, they have historically involved themselves in international affairs and the continuation of this could result in involving themselves in a major conflict.

Russia has always eyed Finland so if they ever develop imperial ambitions (which is not much of a stretch given their history), Finland will be one of the first nations they conquer.

Costa Rica lies in Central America, not exactly the most stable area of the world. It may be neutral itself and have no army, but that is not going to stop an aggressive power or your basic criminals of the region from exploiting their complacency.

The Swiss and Bhutan should be stable, as they are quite isolated and difficult to invade.

Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil (specifically the South) should be a good place to live also. Brazil is self-sufficient and has no regional enemies that can really do anything to them. Its rising economy should spread some wealth around too, so maybe the crime and poverty will decline. I would say these Southern South American countries are the most stable of the notable nation-states. In addition, various small and isolated island countries are worth mentioning as being safe.

  26. … Continued

Any place in Africa, Asia (barring the Himalayas), Europe (barring the Arctic or Swiss Alps), Australia/New Zealand, North America, Central America, and the Northern half of South America is not very stable.

African conflicts over resources and between different religions, races, and ethnicities have been seemingly nonstop for decades now. So nowhere on the continent is there any real stability.

The Middle East and Central Asia is not even worth mentioning. Everyone knows how volatile they are.

South Asia has conflict between India and Pakistan, India and China, the civil strife in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, the various factions within India (caste vs caste, Hindus vs Muslims vs Christians), don’t help matters.

Europe still has tension in the Balkans, as well as between Western Europe and Russia. Many Western European countries are peaceful with each other, but the Muslims who practically live next door (and increasingly within Europe) appear to be a potential troublesome area. In addition, many European countries are in dire financial situations (Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain). As for Russia, it has a high crime rate, high AIDS rate, and is always seemingly at odds with other great powers. Its declining population, disproportionate land and resources make it a prime target. U.S., Western Europe, and China all look at it as a threat, and Russia in turn looks at them as a threat.

East Asia/Southeast Asia has North Korea and the rise of China to fear. Both nations are quite hostile to Japan and South Korea. China (i.e. ethnic Chinese who reside abroad, but are often loyal to the homeland) also pull the strings in many Southeast Asian nations like Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. They basically dominate the economies of these countries and this causes friction between the Chinese and the natives of these lands. Possible Chinese imperialism and definite regional hegemony is sure to create friction/resentment/backlash. Thailand and Cambodia are in their own conflict. Myanmar is unstable, as is the Philippines — both have internal disputes.

Australia and New Zealand have Chinese hegemony to worry about. That, and other rising Asian powers that look at the two nations’ sparse populations and resource rich environments with envy.

North America… has the U.S. If there is another major war, rest assured, America will be involved. Canada wont benefit either(see post above). Mexico has its drug cartel problem. Plus, it has never really been that stable.

Central America and Northern South America has a lot of criminal gangs, poverty, and extreme wealth inequality. While Costa Rica in one of the few that doesn’t, there is no telling that the violence will not spill over and affect them. It is a very small country and can thus succumb to being overwhelmed by outsiders.

So we come to Southern South America (Argentina, Uruguay, Southern Brazil, and Southern Chile). Pretty isolated from everyone else. None of the countries really have international enemies. None of them really involve themselves in international affairs. Their populations are quite large so they wont be bullied like Costa Rica can be in regards to criminal syndicates. There is wealth inequality and criminal gangs to worry about, but not on the level of their northern neighbors. They have abundant resources and a homogeneous population — a striking difference from other Latin American countries. If there is any region of the world that suggests stability it is here. It has its problems, but not to the degree of the other regions previously mentioned.

  27. I think as long as you’re far from countries with war, like Afghanistan, Iraq, etc., you’re generally safe. But if a world conflict erupt, like WW3, I don’t think there is a safe place anymore, considering all the Nukes that is spread around the world, it will be the end for all of us.

  28. Hey Larry,

You’re right when you say … dig a hole and get in … Lol!! for is there really a safe place on this Earth? The whole Planet is now “Disaster prone”

However, don’t give up guys, keep searching … Good Luck & SYANARA …hope to see you all in heaven!!

  29. Papua New Guinea?? WTH? Are you nuts. Port Moresby is the deadliest place on earth. You will need armed body guards if traveling there on business. In the rural area, tribal conflicts are very common and primal.

  30. haley says:
    April 23, 2011 at 12:44 am
have you ever heard of the bhutan death march?

    FYI
It wasn’t the Bhutan Death March…that was Bhataan, in the Phillipines and was a march of Filipino and Americans by occupying Japanese forces. Duh!

  31. Your missing the big picture, why is their disaster and war. Earthquake well the ring of fire countries are not safe from a geological point of view, disaster can lead to violence. Japan and NZ have behaved well but what if there are more quakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions. Russias Taiga forest in the mountains very remote self sufficient but in a nuclear conflict in the fallout path. Also modern warfare especially with bombers means even the swiss are at risk. You need a place safe from quakes, flooding. Self sufficient with high ground but also durable home that’s also unassuming. So like a log cabin exterior with concrete interior and alon windows and hidden underground bunker. Meanwhile you need geographic barriers to make getting to you challenging, but allow a small team to get out. Vermont’s green mountains into Canada newfoundland. Also you want to grow your own food. Add in all the factors possible a 2012 scenario and you will want 7-9 different shelters and contingency plans. Mountains of new mexico, new hamshire into Canada, bhutan, mountains of chile, Switzerland, highlands of africa.

  32. Great posts! I’m moving to Fiji, I’d rather go by weather than be bombed. I thought about moving to NZ but changed my mind after reading posts. Thks

  33. I have a point for everyone of you to consider. First of all, I too have looked and considered where it will be safe to be in this world. Now 15 years later, I find that there is a comet (comet ELENIN)in our solar system that is 4 times the mass of Jupiter, and is estimated to come .0007AU (astronomical units) from the earth. In fact when the comet was first discovered, NASA stated that it could not accurately state that the comet would not collide with the earth. ELE in ELENIN stands for extinction level event. The comet will approach closest to the earth and the sun both on october 16th, there should be a complete and utter eclipse of the sun for 3 days, and then about 4 days of flying through its tail with all of that cosmic junk in it. We will be in alignment with it and the sun for about another 4 days. prior to this, upon its closest approach, we will be in alignment with it an the sun, with it being between us and the sun. Just to give you an idea of what this will mean for the earth, the NZ, Japan, chile, earthquakes and some otheres all happened while in alignment with the sun the earth and the comet. The comet was not even that close to us at that time and yet its effects have been devestating to those regions. This comet matches the criteria of planet NIBIRU spoken of by the antient Sumerians and other cultures of the world. This is the place where the Sons of God came to and fro. This is the place where those who enslaved this planet for its gold came from, and they return every 3657 years. You think that you can escape this by going to NZ,Finland, CR or any other place on this planet, you are kicking yourself in the balls. Get a grip people and come to understand what is truely important to you. NASA has since tried to downplay the severity of this heavenly body. They can’t tell you that this is it, this is the one to end the age. This is the Destroyer spoken of in scripture and is most likely what the MAYANS were calculating as part of their 26000 year cycle. The entrence into the Aquarian age is the end of the cycle, and is the ALPHA and OMEGA of human creation. You need to decide for yourself. Don’t be in fear though. if you are in fear, you will not ascend. (SERVICE TO YOUR FELLOW MAN IS THE HIGHEST FOR ME OF LOVE) This is one of the last and great lessons given to humanity by Jesus. I invite you all to read the Celestine Prophesy books by James Redfield. These will give you the 12 insights into human consciousness. Then I would go immediately to the Saint Germain Press website and learn of the “I AM” teachings. These are the teachings of Enoch, Moses, and Jesus. I don’t care what religion you are in. These teachings are universal and can be found in every major culture in some form or another. Peace Love and Light to you all. May you find your higher self and shed off the garment of this illusion. May you find the creator in every grain of sand. I love you all. Jai Jacobo

  34. hey!
you foregate Sweden as i think it is one of countries with neutral policies.
    what do you think?

  35. as a Finn I must point out that Finland is not part of NATO. However I would not call it a safe place in case of ww3, we’re right next to russia and st.petersburg! WW3 sarts and finland will glow in the dark for centuries.

    my choice is denmark (Greenland)

  36. This post is really talking about if things go moderately bad. If a real nuclear war breaks out and its survival of the fittest, then I think none of the countries mentioned except maybe some island countries where fruit and fish can be harvested would work out. The Western world depends on an organized agricultural infrastructure and oil to work. Withouth those, only micro-self-sufficient places would be viable. Also geographically, the only places which would be relatively untouched by nuclear holocaust (if they are not directly bombed) would be Patagonia and Tasmania, which receive Arctic currents, so they wouldn’t receive much fallout.

  37. A few omissions for consideration, First, now the entire north american continent is awash in radiation the pacific is more radioactive each passing day. If there is war more D.U. will be fired and oops more radiation higher levels still. Any of the islands you show are at sea level the ring of fire is active many tsunamis in near future, sechelles is going under as we speak they went to the UN summit about inevitable relocation. Then lovely NZ is so hard to get in but abundant in water space and some natural resources which who might like for themselves in the future or under dire straights? Food shortages here now if you didn’t know. CHINA they have been caught in Canada dropping goods for market and having secret scoops under the ships hulls and are scooping and taking Canada’s water back to CHINA and pumping it into their under ground reserves. So there is a huge change China will come marching in and take all the trees and water and sheep that they so choose, I mean what are 4M NZrs going to say to ……http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QOvgyQxrZg Oh My

  38. Switzerland is a good neutral conutry not sure whats happening to it now, but if ww3 starts. Sorry American but I am O-U-T OUT!!

  39. Denmark is not isolated enough! πŸ™‚ Too close to the problematic Central Europe πŸ˜‰

  40. I would say more Sweden or Norway, but definitely not Finland…. Geee, you kidding me right? it’s right next to all nazi Baltic states and Russia. I’m Swedish and I’m proud that our countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark) are the best in the world!

  41. Where is Danmark? Danmark is in Afganistan and on Al Quaida’s Places to visit list. Hardly a merit that ranks highly on the Peaceful places list?

  42. I remember cheching out Afganistan’s official webpage right before US attacked ’em. The slogan was “Probably the most peaceful country in the world”.

Denmark has one small corner that would be safer than even my country Finland – that would be Greenland.

  43. 10 Best Places to Live for Escaping World Conflict

    1) MARS

    2) JUPITER

    3) SATURN

    4) NEPTUNE

    5) URANUS

    6) MERCURY

    7) VENUS

    8) COMETS

    9) ASTEROID

    10) MOON

  44. what about the south of ireland. it is magnificent people are nice and friendly

  45. HEAVEN is the best place to live escaping from the world of conflicts. May you REST IN PEACE! hahahah… πŸ˜€

  46. My best 10:

    1. Davao City, Philippines (search it to prove)
    2. Paris, France
    3. Boracay, Philippines (beautiful beaches)
    4. Sydney, Australia
    5. Rome, Italy
    6. London
    7. Penang, Malaysia
    8. HongKong
    9. Ilocos Norte, Philippines
    10. Baguio, Philippines

  47. Iceland is stable as a country?! Didn’t their banks collapse before Britain’s? Leaving us in a whole heap of isht, may I add

  48. Oh, and to whoever above me named LONDON in their ’10 Best Places to Live for Escaping World Conflict’ list, are you insane or just trying to show off the list of places you’ve pretended to visit? Absolute idiot

  49. You completely forgot Australia! It’s isolated, HUGE, with endless places to hide. It’s also very stable and peaceful. When the human apocalypse erupts, I’m going to be there!

  50. Uruguay would be a great place to escape world conflict. We are pretty isolated, nobody knows where we are and there is plenty of space for everyone; no one would even bother to go throw bombs there.

  51. I think that the top places right now to escape a conflict would be Egypt and Libya. I feel that those are two of the safest places on earth right now and there is no government turmoil or an uprising that would create any conflict in the country. I also think that Iran and North Korea are a close third and forth, with Kashmir, as a fifth choice. Afghanistan could be on the list too, seeing as there’s never any war there.

  52. Denmark = too close to Germany!

Monaco is a good place to hang out!

    Regards
    Andrew

  53. World war three is with nature not each others countries. You can’t simply run away to some distant land and think your going to leave all your bad habits behind. I’m speaking %100 green. Not too many people know how to do that. Nature needs a break from us and it has nowhere to run.

  54. Australia has racisam problem.
    denmark has language problem..
i will stick to remote village in india no tv.no mobile network…ha ha ha…

  55. Even Afghanistan can be the best place to live in if the world stops playing inhuman poltics there..I have been there and have seen the natural beauty and wonderful climate!!!

  56. Maybe look at the history of the other 2 world wars before just picking countries you like at random. Denmark was one of the countries captured by Germany hence not making the list as it has the same vulnerability as before, same with Sweden. Not completely sure why Canada makes the list and Australia doesn’t as they both have the same allegiances to Britain, I guess Canada is just big enough to find somewhere good to hide.

  57. I agree with a couple choices overall – someone suggested India? Bad option – India will likely be at the center of the WW3 conflict.

Pakistan is very angry at the US recently. They have already allied with China, the US is siding with their long time ally India.

Most of east and west Asia would be involved in a WW3 conflict as would much of North America. I would leave Canada and Costa Rica off the safe list. Tuvalu seems an arbitrary choice and there are many remote islands in the south Pacific just as safe.

Seychelles might be a poor choice because of it’s location too close to India. It could be used as a military base.

  58. Ok guys it’s clear nobody seem to believe the African continent is just has safe as the Antarctic…..my choice for the top ten should includes the Ethiopian “rift valley”
highlands….its where our first parent lived and its where mankind will survive when we over populate and kill the planet. The “Corporation” will have lots for sale on Mars for Nu-humans(clones) good luck with that!

  59. Trouble with New Zealand is that it is one of the most geologically unstable areas on the planet. Move there if you wish to witness severe volcanic eruptions.

  60. @Tabitha Australia doesn’t have a racist problem, there are some people within Australia that do. I could say the same for America (or just about any country). What I have a problem with is people who make huge assumptions based on mainstream media.

  61. Yeah, debating these kind depends on what one means by “escaping world conflict.” If it means becoming a hermit and tucking yourself into the side of a mountain, (which I would agree with the definition), then a lot of these are perfect and I don’t care if no one believes me, but I lived out in the middle of Siberia for a while, and despite it being in Russia, the Russian government doesn’t care too much to bother with the small tiny villages scattered around that one could easily hide between some of the huge mountain ranges and NO ONE would EVER find you…or want to. πŸ™‚
But yeah if you’re wanting to live “comfortably” as in… modern conveniences, democracy, or just plain friendly folk, and such…there’s a different story and some of these could be debated.

  62. Pretty pictures, but a pretty disingenuous post. It’s not as if Switzerland or New Zealand make it easy to emigrate–and those are just the two countries about which I have done any research. Speaking as someone who did sell off her worldly possessions, buy a plane ticket, and move to another country to live, I can say that it’s not as easy as just moving.

  63. I think it’s kinda creepy that all of us have searched for stable countriesto move to and it sounds like we’re from all over the World.
Great debate though, love all the different views. I say we create our own Country based on love for the Earth each other and peace.

  64. @ Lori> Well said!!
@ Deal Seal> Amazing thought… You must write, if are not a writer already πŸ™‚

  65. @Frank
No volcanic eruptions recently actually. Earthquake, however…. jeesh. :I

If you’re coming to New Zealand to live somewhere safe, stick to the North Island, we’re not currently shaking ourselves to pieces up here.

  66. I would like to live in Iceland. It’s the nicest, cleanest, and one of the healthiest and wealthiest countries in the world.I like all the northern countries of Europe.I also like the western countries except France. Not such a nice country for me at all(according to my own experience).I think the least recommended country to live is Greece.

  67. Oh yes,I forgot to add something.New Zealand is a perfect country to live. However,it’s like the unreachable paradise.

  68. WHAT about IRELAND??? We have no volcanoes, no earthquakes, no tornados and most importantly we DON’T get involved in world conflicts!!!

  69. Canada shares a border with France (St Pierre & Miquelon), Denmark (Groenland) and Russia (accross the North Pole)

  70. Not to mention that the border around the area of Hans Island between Canada and Greenland (a Danish dependent territory) is disputed and undefined…

  71. Global thermonuclear war… Forget anywhere near ANY POSSIBLE targets.. Nothing in Europe or Asia (perhaps with the exception of somewhere in the himalayas). Nothing in North America, short of somewhere FAR NORTH in Canada.

Meteor Impact… Again, the himalayas come to mind, but without impact prediction.. lol.. It’s a guessing game. Almost any small island nation is OUT OF THE QUESTION, as it would surely be swallowed by the sea.

Biogenic war… Complete isolation from any people/airflow (habitable greenland is out due to gulf stream) Think- VERY high mountains far, far away from any people.

Main issues: Food, potable water, medical care.

    Northern Canada sounds decent.

  72. Tuvalu? Really? I suppose it depends on your thinking. If you are looking for a “safe” place, you might want to take into account the fact that Tuvalu is one of the most environmentally threatened places on the entire planet. As sea levels rise, the country is becoming submerged. Currently, plans are already in the works for where to send everyone on this little nation if their homeland is under water. Look into Tuvalu’s plea to the international community to put Global Climate Change at the top of the priority list. Perhaps a better list for expats to consider is: Most Important Things You Can Do To Protect This Planet You Love To Explore.

  73. U clearly have not been to Costa Rica recently. You cannot go out downtown at night because there are thousands of thieves out there. Also It is full of drugs nowadays and of immigrants trying to find out the easiest way of stealing. It used to be very calm years ago but now it even has “hit men schools”

  74. great arguements guy!
i feel new zealand is extremely safe as i live here now and have moved from india which wasnt one of the cleanest placesto live!
also people talked about going to the middle of australia which i think i stupid because there is no way anyone part from bear grillz could survive in that environment!

  75. …you do realize there is mass ethnic cleansing occuring in Bhutan and over 100,000 refugees have been forced into camps in Nepal and are currently being resettled around the world? if that’s your definition of escaping world conflict…

  76. Bhutan is listed as the fifth most-notorious country in terms of anti-Christian discrimination. In July 2010 a church was attacked by a gang of youths, who stoned the building and threatened to burn it down if religious services were not discontinued. There is no religious tolerance or freedom. Be a Buddist,Hindu or die. not my idea of friendly!

  77. TUVALU is SINKING because f GLOBAL WARMING
ex Tuvalu people are already asking for refuges
